Triggertrap is an app that makes it easy for photographers to use their phone as a wired remote control.

Feb 26, 2013  Triggertrap lets you get some distance between you and your camera too, with Wi-Fi triggering when you have two devices with the app installed. To connect your Android device to your camera buy a Triggertrap Mobile Dongle separately. See the Triggertrap website for a list of supported cameras, and for more information.

The Triggertrap system consists of 3 parts:

  • An app for iOS or Android
  • A Mobile Dongle that turns an audio signal into a switch
  • A Camera Connection Cable for a specific camera.

Triggertrap is a commercial project that was conceived in 2010, launched in 2011, and ultimately went out of business in 2017.

The original software for iOS was built by Matt Kane, and it was further developed by Ross Gibson and Valentin Kalchev.

Here are the ways you can get triggering:
Sensor mode:
• Sound sensor - clap, whistle or tap
Timelapse modes:
• Timelapse - travel through time

• Bramping - bulb ramping timelapse to keep your exposure smooth

HDR modes:
• LE HDR - Long exposure HDR sets with up to 19 exposures

Along with all these modes, there are a variety of cable release modes, including simple cable release, tap and hold, and timed exposures up to 100 hours long! Long Exposure HDR (LE-HDR) mode supports shutter speeds from several hours down to 1/16th second, and can do up to 19 bracketed shots with 1/3, 1/2, 1 or 2 EV steps.
